The recent import of five 25-ton brewery tanks for SAB Miller from Antwerp to Rosslyn was all in a day’s work for GAC Laser, which was commissioned by the Ziemann Group to move the tanks – each measuring 22m in length and 6m in diameter. The GAC Laser team – Carol Holland, Terry Keegan and Yasen Khan – was on site at Richards Bay to oversee the safe transfer from ship to shore. “It took eight hours to off-load the tanks using two 150 ton ship cranes and lots of attention to detail,” said Holland. “Once on the truck, the transit time to Rosslyn was 7-10 days, with Eskom and Telkom called upon to move lines where there was risk of damage. “The eight months of estimating, planning and negotiating with vessel agents, the port, and crane owners was time well spent in ensuring that operations such as these run smoothly,” said Holland.
