PORTNET CAPE Town is widening its sphere of community-related sponsorships, latest being the first Nipper Carnival of the Western Province Surf Lifesaving season.
Lifesaving at nipper level - children up to the age of 14 - has been in great need of sponsorship, hence the delight at Portnet coming forward.
Port operations manager Malcolm Green points to the natural link between lifesaving and the authority as both revolve around the utilisation of the sea.
Portnet, he says, also recognises the importance of nippers being taught how to respect the sea and to conserve marine life and the environment.
The one-day Portnet Nipper Carnival was held last week at Strand Surf Lifesaving Club.
