JUST FINDING his feet, is how Portnet's new ombudsman - corporate lawyer Bongo Rulashe - described his activity to date in his new role.
In his portfolio, Rulashe has been charged with the task of investigating any fraud, mismanagement or corruption in the port authority - and reporting direct to the Portnet board.
I am here as an independent officer to assist Portnet with any reported irregularities, he told FTW in an exclusive interview.
My basic task is to look into any allegations, make a finding, and report to management.
Complaints have already started to flow in through the toll-free number allocated to Rulashe's office. Complaints surrounding various irregular aspects, he said, from employees and management in Portnet, and from outside parties.
But it's too early to comment on any of these so far, Rulashe added.
I am investigating a number of issues, he said, but none are as yet finalised.
However, through FTW, he does encourage readers to make known any fraud or corruption cases they have experienced in Portnet activities.
I am open to complaints both from inside and outside the port authorities, Rulashe said. And I am certainly very interested in hearing form suppliers to Portnet - and the users of harbour services.
Rulashe's toll-free number is: 0800 200 657.
