OIL AND gas exploration off the coast of Namibia has motivated equipment upgrades at the Port of Lüderitz Bay. Manica Group subsidiary, Walvis Bay Stevedoring, is expanding its operations as it gears up for increased handling of mining cargo and support to onshore and offshore oil and gas exploration activities due to start in the area early next year. The company has taken delivery of new 6m and 12m container spreaders for the efficient handling of increased container volumes. It has also introduced new equipment designed for the simultaneous discharge of six two-ton bulk bags of cement, sugar or wheat. The Manica Group will establish a new stevedoring company in the port where it operates as Lüderitz Bay Shipping and Forwarding. The ISO and BEE-accredited company will be equipped with new 3 ton and 10 ton forklifts.
