Poor rains push up Zimbabwe maize imports

With a poor rainy season, Zimbabwe is only expected to produce around 900 000 tonnes of grain against an annual demand of 1.8 million tonnes.

Added to that, the price of domestic maize is more expensive, with private millers in Zimbabwe offering anything between US$240 to $300 per tonne for local maize.

So, in September, they are expected to increase maize imports from Zambia from 30 000t to 100 000t per month.
