A sting by the SA Police Service came up trumps for members of the Anti-Gang Unit in the Western Cape on Friday when their search uncovered a container in Milnerton filled with 28 500 ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of R6.5 million, including manufacturing devices.
The unit led an integrated operation in the City Centre assisted by members of the City of Cape Town, Provincial Government and Crime Intelligence, with a targeted approach to identify businesses.
Upon entering identified premises in Castle Street, some individuals fled in different directions. During interrogation, a foreign national led the team to an address in Maitland where they searched the entire premises as well as mobile devices, which eventually drew their attention to a container located in Milnerton. They entered the container and a search resulted in the confiscation of the illicit cargo. They detained two suspects on charges of dealing in drugs.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates Court.
