THE EASTERN Cape pineapple industry has had unexpected road barriers placed in its path in the heart of its spring season, and producers are now faced with heavy losses as a result of having to transport their goods on a far lengthier route to get to their markets. The provinceÕs Public Works Department decided recently, without prior warning, to close the coastal road at Keiskamma cuttings, sealing off a 24km section of the road for construction purposes.
