Joy orlek PAT HENEGAN has decided that 85 is as good a time as any to retire. After 58 years in the freight industry, he’s hanging up his gloves and retiring to Hillcrest in Natal. He started his career with AJ Keeler in 1948, and in 1975 launched his own clearing and forwarding company – Heneways – where his involvement has continued until now. A spirited campaigner when it came to causes close to his heart, he played an active role in the Association of Freight Forwarders. Of all the dramatic changes that he’s seen over his 58 years in business, he believes containerisation was the most significant. “At the outset there were many importers who resisted it and wanted to use the conventional mode. “But change is a constant, and today if you can’t provide a one-stop solution, you won’t be in business.” Two years ago his wife of 61 years passed away but he has recently remarried and will move to Hillcrest with his new wife. We wish them well!
