ED RICHARDSON
VOLKSWAGEN SOUTH Africa (VWSA) is gearing up for increased exports and growth in the local market through a R750 million investment in a new paint shop, which will boost production at the company’s Uitenhage assembly plant.
The facility will enable a daily output of 500 units, which will help accommodate the potential growth in the industry that is expected to exceed 800 000 units in 2010.The construction of the paint shop will begin in May 2005 and should be in full operation within the first few months of 2007.
The new building will be situated adjacent to the current facility at the Uitenhage plant.
