Packaging technology could minimise transported food losses

Bosch packaging solutions offer a number of resealable, flexible pouches that are easy to transport and store.

Roughly one third of global imported and exported food products are lost each year from field to table. These losses could be significantly reduced by incorporating technology into packaging, according to engineering group, Bosch’s packaging division in Germany.

A CNBC Africa report cited a Bosch spokesperson as saying that in less developed countries – including Africa – foodstuff losses mostly resulted from inadequate harvesting conditions and lack of infrastructure, such as inappropriate storage.

According to Bosch, improved packaging allows food to be transported over long distances and helps preserve the food for longer. Packaging also needs to look at optimal use of storage space.
