THE 30 000dwt ore carrier
Ruhr N was forced to make an
unexpected detour en route from
Brazil to China last week when her
crew detected a crack adjacent
to number four hold, ten metres
below the waterline. The vessel
was carrying a full load of iron ore
The crew effected temporary
repairs while the master headed
for relatively calm St Helena Bay,
north of Cape Town, on Sunday,
March 26.
The job was completed within
three days, allowing the Ruhr N to
continue her voyage on March 29.
