‘One-stop’ security company offers comprehensive service range

As security issues continue to feature high on every transport company’s agenda, Loss Elimination Organisation (PARD) trading as Leopard has come up with a “one-stop” solution. “Our philosophy is to assess the client’s needs and provide tailor-made, proactive solutions. “What we can’t offer in-house, we will outsource and manage in order to offer preferential rates,” says Leopard’s Johan Robinson. “For example, we would contract a security company to do armed escorts for high value products in the countries north of our borders and do tracking through our dedicated tracking company from Johannesburg. With our vast experience of African conditions we are convinced that we can add value to our clients’ businesses and eliminate their risks.” The company was initially established to provide security solutions for high value cargo, especially copper and cobalt, from Zambia and the DRC to the ports of Dar es Salaam, Durban and Walvis Bay. Based on the success of this initiative, it has grown to offer a comprehensive product range. Officially launched last year and based in Midrand, Leopard targets a range of customers – from cargo owners and insurance companies to freight forwarders and transporters. “Our key focus is the sub-Saharan region, with a more dedicated focus on DRC, Tanzania and SADC countries where we cover the routes to the ports of Dar es Salaam, Durban, Walvis Bay and the Johannesburg hub,” says Leopard’s Tiaan Smith. “One of our products is a container lock with a builtin GPS which has been used with huge success both in South Africa and cross-border,” says Smith. “We offer a 24-hour satellite tracking and monitoring service for cargo in the countries mentioned. To our knowledge we are the only company able to offer mobile tracking on rail wagons containing bulk copper.” Leopard’s portfolio includes an engineering company which assists in the development of locking and other anti-theft devices. All the company’s directors have security, police and risk management backgrounds, he added, with combined experience of 130 years in the security field. “Through sister companies we are also involved in the investigation of hijackings and theft, said Robinson. “We have an excellent network and a good recovery record in the event of a loss occurring.”
