Ocean Network Express (ONE) is expanding its current refrigerated container (reefer) fleet by adding another 5000, 40ft high-cube container units to its fleet.
It includes, says area sales manager Shabir Dawood, 200 units equipped with advanced controlled atmosphere (CA) technology.
The reefer expansion will meet growing demand for refrigerated capacity around the world.
It comes on the heels of last year’s procurement of 6000 units.
In 2019, global refrigerated container volume grew by more than 7%, augmented by the expansion of middle class consumption in Asia where healthy food choices are on the increase.
In 2020, despite challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the prospects for global refrigerated container trade remain strong - especially for the protein and fresh fruits segments.
The growth momentum is expected to continue for the rest of the year.
ONE is currently working towards the application of latest internet-of-things (IoT) technology in its fleet of reefer containers, ensuring real-time visibility of critical information such as temperature and humidity inside the container.
