On-site equipment helps save fuel costs

Namibian fleet operators can now enjoy big cost and safety benefits by producing their own nitrogen for use in tyres. Supplied and supported by Intaka Technology Namibia, the equipment includes a hand-held analyser that allows operators to check the purity of the nitrogen in the tyre afterwards. “The benefits of using nitrogen are only felt at purity levels above 95% in the tyre,” says Andre Slabbert, technical manager of Intaka Technology Namibia. According to Slabbert, tyre testing on nitrogen-inflated tyres in the USA showed that tread life increased by 23-30%, while tyre failures were reduced by 50%. The company is also responsible for providing medical oxygen and “medical air” to hospitals across Namibia – a logistical challenge which calls for technological solutions, says Slabbert. Intaka Technology Namibia gas generating system (GGS) plants have been containerised and installed on site at 32 Namibian state hospitals. With newly installed GPRS links the company now monitors the performance of each plant on-line. Fleet operators who have invested in nitrogen generators will benefit from the investments made to support the hospital GGS plants, says Slabbert. “Our GGS plants need regular service and maintenance by our technical team, so we have established two new offices – one in Windhoek covering the southern region and the other in Oshakati covering the northern region.”
