WALVIS BAY Corridor Group (wbcg) has developed a full logistics service for international companies exporting goods to Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“We are engaged in an all-out drive to show companies in Europe, the US and South America that we can handle it all for them through the port of Walvis Bay speedily and at reduced costs right to the consignee’s door,” says wbcg’s Patrick Kohlstaedt.
“This is part of our Trans Caprivi Corridor Development programme,” Kohlstaedt told FTW. “With the bridge open between Namibia and Zambia we can move transit cargo to the northern destinations faster than any of the competing ports on the southern African coast. Along with this goes the established efficiency and reliability of both the port and our hinterland connections.
“We’ve been competing with Durban and other East African ports on the export side, where rates are competitive. But I’m satisfied that what we are offering on imports is far quicker and vastly more cost effective. This opens up good business proposals for overseas companies which, in turn, will be encouraged to use the return trip for exports from both Zambia and the DRC.”
