THIS MONTH sees the launch of a new monthly breakbulk service between South Africa and selected South East Asian ports.
A joint venture between Unithai Line and Gearbulk, UniGear Limited of Bermuda will deploy two dedicated multi-purpose vessels in the trade to provide a minimum of one sailing a month in each direction.
The dedicated vessels in the service are the Candia and Caria.
Durban-based Gearbulk South Africa will manage the eastbound marketing of the service as well as all operations in South Africa. Bangkok-based Unithai Line will be responsible for the management of the westbound marketing and all operations in South East Asia.
Gearbulk has for some time offered, and will continue to operate, an eastbound breakbulk liner service from South Africa to the Far East. The new service is a dedicated round trip operation with vessels originating in and returning to South Africa.
