Dr Beverley Waugh has been
appointed executive director
of the SA Shippers’ Council,
effective from February 1.
A well-known name
in the shipping industry
– possibly better known
as Beverley Kujawa –
she holds a doctorate
in logistics outsourcing
and has lectured at the
University of Johannesburg
in the transport and logistics
department on and off for the
past 15 years. She has also
worked on freelance projects
for Unisa and a University
in Sweden and has over
the years been involved in
transport consultancy work.
A key focus in her new
role, she told FTW, will be
to grow the membership
base and come up with
deliverables.
“We want to focus on
supply chain efficiency
which is ultimately in
the best interests of the
economy.”
SASC currently has 24
members.
”We will be looking to
extend membership to
providers – anyone who is
involved in supply chain
efficiency.”
She also sees merit in
collaboration with other
organisations. “We all need
to be talking to each other
and pulling in the same
direction to facilitate South
Africa’s economy.
“We will also be looking
to liaise more closely with
Transnet and the Department
of Transport on the port
efficiency issue.”
