The newly formed logistics
company SG Agility – a joint
venture (JV) between the
international logistics group,
Agility, and South Africa’s
Super Group – has set its
sights on further expanding
its sub-Saharan African
footprint with its on-theground
partners.
“Partnering with Agility
gives our customers access
to a leading international
logistics provider with a
strong global network
and a legacy of proven
performance. Our team
on the ground and our
experience in the local
market allow us to add
value to Agility’s
operations
and further
the
growth
and
development of the logistics
industry in sub-Saharan
Africa,” said SG Agility CEO,
Henk Theron.
Elias Monem, Agility’s
CEO of Middle East &
Africa, added that South
Africa was vital to the
company’s strategic growth
and expansion in Africa. “It
has well-developed financial,
legal, communications and
transport sectors, along with
an open trade policy and a
comparatively
strong
domestic
market. The
joint venture
with Super
Group is a
sign of our
commitment
to both South
Africa and the
continent.”
On July
1 this year,
Super Group
announced
that it had
formed a joint venture after
Agility acquired a minority
stake in the group’s freight
forwarding unit, Micor.
“Micor had been in a global
strategic partnership with
Agility since 2005 so the
integration was seamless as
we simply had to convert our
operations to the Agility
system,” said Theron.
He told FTW that
the new JV now offered
an African footprint with
operations in Egypt,
Algeria, Angola, Kenya,
Nigeria,
Ghana,
Rwanda,
Libya,
Uganda,
Ivory Coast,
Malawi,
Mozambique
and South
Africa.
It offers
local and
multinational
customers
a range of
logistics
and supply
chain solutions, including
airfreight, oceanfreight,
roadfreight, customs
clearance, warehousing and
distribution.
SG Agility now has over
150 employees with its head
office in Johannesburg and
branch offices located in
Port Elizabeth, Durban and
Cape Town.
