There’s a new option in
the light delivery market
with the launch by General
Motors of the Spark Pronto.
“It’s a totally unique
product, designed for the
South African market,”
Chevrolet brand manager
Tim Hendon told FTW.
“It’s based on the latest
generation Chevrolet
Spark 1.2 litre. We simply
removed the two rear
seats, added a cargo bay
with reinforced load bay,
cargo security bars to
prevent loads shifting and
a more hardwearing rear
compartment,” Hendon
explained. “It also has
built-in roof racks which
easily accommodate a
ladder or other light loads
up to 50kgs.”
All of this, he added,
is based on the modern
safety of the Spark which
includes ABS, dual front
airbags and modern design
integrity that enables the
Spark to withstand 4.1
times its own body weight
in a roll-over. “This is
enough to earn a vehicle
maximum points in this
particular element of the
safety ratings tests.”
Fuel efficiency is always
top of mind, and with a
combined cycle of 5.4 litres
per 100 kms, this car is as
green as anything else out
there, he said.
