Construction of the deepwater port in the northern Angolan town of Caio Litoral, Cabinda province is set to start by the middle of this year and preparatory work is already under way, according to the Cabinda provincial governor, Aldina da Lomba Catembo. The governor previously stated that the work was the largest ever carried out in the Angolan province, and would “take Cabinda out of isolation”. The first phase will include the extension of the commercial wharf wall and support for the 36-metre-long platform which will be extended to meet the following requirements – a ship repair section (200 sqm), a breakwater, access canal (150 metres wide), a new road access and basin (215 metres wide). The port is being constructed by a publicprivate partnership and will be implemented in three phases by Angolan company, CAioporto SA.
