New clinic to open in Swaziland

Truck drivers’ clinics like the one above handling HIV-Aids have been set up in 12 localities in South Africa by the road freight industry. A new one is due to open in Swaziland. Since the launch of the concept in 2001 in Beaufort West, the clinics have conducted 36 605 treatments on “drivers and women at risk”, with patients’ visits totalling nearly 90 000. In the six year period they have reached some 236 000 people with their awareness education programme and have distributed nearly seven million condoms.
