New body will represent container owners

A NEW industry organisation which will represent the common interests of all owners of freight containers - the Container Owners Association - has taken a major step forward. The first of two planning meetings took place in Amsterdam at the end of March and was attended by over 20 representatives of the world’s leading shipping lines and lessors. The second will be held in Asia in June, while the inaugural meeting of the new Association is scheduled for November of this year. Participants believe that existing international bodies only represent specific sectors of the industry, and that there is now a need for an Association to represent the needs of all owners. The aim of the COA is to enhance co-operation between its members and other associated industry bodies in a number of technical and operational fields.
