A NEUTRAL AIRFREIGHT consolidation service for freight agents has opened its doors at Johannesburg International Airport operated by MMA Consolidators. The company is linked to similar operations worldwide. "We have based ourselves in the Agents' Building at the airport as this is still the focal point for breakbulk and handover of consolidation documents," says managing director Mike Todd. The company does not offer a customs clearing service and nor does it sell direct to importers. It is geared to small to medium sized agents, particularly those who do not have representation in the country of origin of their imported consignments. Competitive benefits, says Todd, are lower rates, a free shipment monitoring service, and faxed pre-clearance documents. "There is also no foreign exchange risk in our service." he says. The company offers services from major cities in Europe, Far East, United States, Australia and New Zealand. "We are representatives for Speed in Europe and UAC Inc in the States, Australia and New Zealand. Both these wholesale freight agents are major players in the industry and, like ourselves, offer the security of complete neutrality." Although a young company Ð MMA started in September Ð Todd and day-to-day operations manager Jenny Blake have a total of 50 years experience in the industry between them.
