There have been strikes about job security at Australia’s main container ports of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
Strikes on Monday at Patrick Stevedores - the country’s largest stevedoring business, handling almost 45% of all container cargo in Australia - follow separate strikes on Sunday by tugboat engineers.
The series of tugboat strikes - resuming in Melbourne today (Tuesday) - have held up shipments in Geelong, Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne, where tug company Svitzer is sole operator.
Strikes have ranged from 24 to 48 hours, but members of the Australian Institute of Marine and Power Engineers have endorsed them for up to seven days.
