FOREIGN VEHICLES entering Namibia will now pay a levy as a result of regulations introduced on December 1. The levies are payable at the border posts of Ariamsvlei and Noordower in the Northern Cape, at the Botswana/Namibia post of Buitepos and the Namibia/Angola border post at Oshikango.
The levy scale ranges from R70 to R500 depending on the size of the vehicle. The system has also eliminated the need for foreign transport operators to apply to the Namibian Department of Transport in Windhoek for travel permits through the territory. These are now issued with the levy clearance at border posts.
Revenue from the levies will be ploughed directly into the road maintenance sector.
