New Kar-Tainer system offers big space benefits SPECIALISTS IN the movement of cars in containers, Kar-Tainer has launched an all-out marketing campaign to promote its logistics package for the automotive industry.
We are not just interested in supplying frames and ramps to move vehicles, says Johannesburg-based m.d. John Doyle. We want to get involved in the total logistical move.
We are working with the lines to encourage them to use our systems. Together we will create joint logistics packages, arranging the loading, packing at source and unpacking at destination. The only way shipping lines will get volume vehicle movements in containers will be through the use of our systems. Kar-Tainer has already put together logistics deals with several car manufacturers to parts of Africa, Korea, Australia and Europe.
We see medium-sized volumes moving to destinations which are not served with any degree of frequency by ro-ro operators as an ideal market, says Doyle.
Since the launch of the cassette system three years ago, a lot of development work has been in progress. Modification of the cassette, which allows the vehicles to be loaded outside the container, will enable us to move different types of vehicles in either standard or high-cube containers. At the moment we are restricted to the use of high-cube containers for larger vehicles. The idea is to be able to use standard containers wherever possible. Kar-Tainer will hold a demonstration and conference on its latest systems at the World Trade Centre in Kempton Park on August 25 and 26. Anyone interested in attending should contact Pam Chetty on (011) 450 1961.
Two semi-knocked down units are loaded onto Kar-Tainer's cassette system and then moved into the container. All loading processes are performed outside the container
