An MSC container vessel was being towed to the Port of Sydney in Nova Scotia this morning after it ran into engine trouble in the Gulf of St Lawrence.
According to the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) the MSC Kim had gone adrift 50 nautical miles from Port au Port off the west coast of Newfoundland while making its way from Halifax to Montreal.
By 03h00 Atlantic time yesterday, the CCG said an assistance vessel, the Atlantic Kingfisher, had managed to attach a towline to the box ship.
Marine Traffic confirmed this morning that the Kim was making its way to the east coast of Cape Breton Island.
