Including client feedback sessions in its standard operating procedures is helping a relative newcomer to make inroads into the market. Ndola-based Central Freight Logistics and Shipping (CFLS) was established in 2008. It is now moving 720-1500 containers a year through the port of Dar-es-Salaam to various destinations in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to commercial director Bryan Sikalubya. CFLS is also moving a variety of cargo through Durban, Zambia and the DRC. “Beira and Walvis Bay are new markets that are proving very interesting,” says Sikalubya. As a regular user of all the ports, airports and routes serving the Copperbelt and other parts of Zambia, CFLS is able to advise clients on the most cost-effective service for each individual shipment, he says. “We are not as interested in making a profit from our clients as in helping them to save costs through well-planned movements,” he says. What makes the company stand out, believes Sikalubya, is that it understands that “we need our customers every day.” So much so that it is standard procedure to ask customers for feedback after shipments have been delivered. “This is the only way that we can be sure of raising levels of service to meet expectations,” he says. In addition to clearing and forwarding the company has full service warehousing facilities in Ndola where it handles fast moving consumer goods and copper from the DRC. It has its own fleet of vehicles operating in the region. INSERT & CAPTION Beira and Walvis Bay are new markets that are proving very interesting. – Bryan Sikalubya
