Ray Smuts A DESIRE to further contribute to the Ômoral fibre' of South African society is what made Mitsui O.S.K. Lines SA sponsor the services of a qualified social worker at Kuils River's Irista Primary School near Cape Town. Pledging R150 000 for this worthy cause, Dave Giraudeau, MOL's managing director in South Africa, quoted Body Shop International founder Anita Roddick as saying: "I want to work for a company that contributes to and is part of the community. I want something not just to invest in, I want something to believe in." Giraudeau told the gathering assembled at a hall close to the school that MOL, apart from having created employment and leadership opportunities, was the most advanced in the shipping industry when it came to employment equity. Spread over three years and subject to review thereafter, the sponsorship will cover the costs of special worker Amanda Adams who comes to her new full-time position from the Department of Correctional Services at Paarl.
