KEVIN MAYHEW With a foothold in containerised and general cargo, United African Lines (UAL) is extending its logistics capacity by establishing a R43m warehouse facility in Mobeni. The conversion of the former Federated Timbers site has commenced and will be fully operational in February next year, according to managing director, Niemesh Singh. La Lucia based UAL, established 11 years ago, specialises in all road-based logistics, cabotage, distribution, warehousing, commercial and industrial property development.The group has just been awarded a R38m Toyota and Lexus dealership and a R28m Delta dealership project for Umhlanga.The projects will be owned by the group and operated by Combine Motor Holdings. “The warehouse will provide us with 30 000 m2 of under cover capacity. It is positioned for convenience and access to the highways to feed Gauteng and some cross border destinations. We handle 20 000 cabotage empties a month alone between Johannesburg and Durban,” said Singh. UAL operates to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique and sub-contracts all its transport needs to preferred service providers.
