Middle Eastern carrier increases its stake in IAG

Middle Eastern carrier, Qatar Airways, announced last week that it had increased its 15.67% stake in International Airlines Group (IAG) to 20.01%.

“While Qatar Airways’ interest in IAG is purely financial, the increased shareholding reflects the strength of commercial and strategic ties between the companies and is evidence of the continued support for the ongoing strategy of IAG,” said Akbar Al Baker, group chief executive of Qatar Airways.

Non-EU shareholders of IAG, including Qatar Airways, are subject to an overall cap on ownership to ensure the group remains majority EU-owned.
