Marking a shipping milestone

The CMA CGM TITAN, was one of two CMA CGM containerships that sailed at the head of the inaugural procession of the new Suez Canal which was officially launched last Thursday. The work on the new canal lasted a year, during which time they achieved the 34km-long construction of a parallel route to the old canal, doubling the canal’s width for 37km – a task that totalled around one million cubic metres of sand dredged per day. And, with the new canal, the number of vessels sailing through will be doubled: from a current average of 49 vessels transiting daily to 97 in 2023.
