ZAMBIA IS facing a “drastic shortfall” in maize production, according to the World Food Programme, and will need to import maize. The country’s inflation rate reached 18.6% in April compared to 17.4% in March. “We expect inflation to average just under 19% in 2005,” said Standard Bank economist, Jan Duvenage.
