THE SERVICE level agreements between the shipping fraternity and Portnet are in their final stages, according to Ronnie Holtshausen, marketing manager at the Port of Durban.
The last meeting between the Container Liner Operators Forum and the harbour authorities saw the final amendments from the lines being tabled.
"Now," said forum chairman Dave Rennie, chief executive of Unicorn Lines, "everything has
to go before Portnet senior management for approval."
Holtshausen confirmed this. "It needs to go through our structure to get a risk assessment, and clarification of certain legal points," he told FTW.
But there will be no untoward delay, he added. Although the original July 1 date of implementation will be missed, "We'd like to get it through as soon as possible," Holtshausen said.
And any hold-up is not purely because of further Portnet machinations.
"The agreements have been going through a
test phase with a sample of the main lines," said Holtshausen, "and they need to go back to their principals for their final approval.
"The other lines outside the sample will also now need to get everything going as well."
