THE FIRST containerised shipment of the newly launched General Motors Lumina motor cars arrived in Durban recently in the form of fourteen 12m containers shipped with Safmarine.
GM believes the benefits of containers, which limit potential damage to vehicles in transit, far outweigh other means of transporting cars, such as specialised car carriers.
Both the Africa and US divisions of GM are said to be happy with the outcome of this first shipment and
others are now likely to follow.
GM introduced the Lumina range in April, intended to compete with such premium luxury cars as the Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3 and 5 Series.
