RECOGNISING THE potential of the Zambian
market, MACS set up it own office in the
country several years ago.
The line offers frequent southbound calls
at Walvis Bay with MACS and GAL vessels,
providing shippers with an alternative to the
traditional port of Durban.
“In the past Zambia was only serviced
via Durban,” a spokesman told FTW. “But
now Walvis Bay is a new gateway, enhanced
by greater co-operation between the shipping
line and trucking companies as well as the
Walvis Bay Corridor Group.
“Cargo from USA and North West Continent
is increasing, particularly trucks, mining
equipment, world aid cargoes and equipment for
the beverage industry which is supporting the
emerging economy.”
