Macs keeps Gautrain on track

THE NEXT shipment of Gautrain rail tracks is on its way to Durban, part of a 20 000 ton shipment from France to be carried by Maritime Carrier Shipping (Macs) over the next 12 to 18 months. Durban’s Multipurpose Terminal (MPT) is making use of specialised Camlocks on loan from French steel company, Corus Steel, the manufacturer of the tracks. These handling tools latch onto the tracks during offloading and are capable of carrying eight, 18 metre rails simultaneously, ensuring efficient and speedy handling. The tracks are loaded onto wagons and transported by rail to Natalspruit after which they move by road to the Bombela Track construction site in Midrand.
