Space-sharing with Kien Hung
BREAKING OUT of
its traditional trade route, Lykes Lines has entered into a space sharing agreement with Kien Hung Line to provide weekly capacity between the Far East, South Africa and South America.
At this stage the service will continue to run with Kien Hung vessels, but Lykes is likely to add its own vessels in time, according to a spokesman.
While sources were tight-lipped about the size of the lineÕs slot allocation, they indicated that it would increase gradually.
The agreement takes effect in early September.
Port rotation on the weekly service is: Pusan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Laem Chabang, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santos.
Transhipment is offered via Singapore, Hong Kong, Pusan, Shanghai, Santos and Buenos Aires.
Kien Hung currently operates 11 vessels of an
average 1510 teu capacity on the route.
Lykes, which has until now specialised in the SA - US, Canada route, is looking at extending its options out of South Africa, according to the spokesman, with further new routes to be announced in coming months.
