SOPHISTICATED TECHNOLOGY has fostered a move away from small satellite offices towards highly specialised, central hubs.
Recognising the prudence of this philosophy, Lufthansa Cargo has decided to consolidate its Southern African operation in Johannesburg effective from April 1. The airline has invested heavily in state-of-the-art CRM systems, electronic booking channels and submitted its employees to intense training in preparation for the move.
"We have formed a competent and strong team to manage our entire local business structure from this office, and will close our representative sales office in Cape Town from that date," sales manager for Southern Africa Anna Acciavatti told FTW.
"Our handling facilities and flight schedules will, however, remain unchanged.
"In Lufthansa Cargo's global organisation, Southern Africa belongs to the Europe and Africa team and is therefore aligning itself to European strategy of streamlining business procedures," said Acciavatti. "This is achieved through customer segmentation, electronic solutions, and call centre hubs," she said.
