Low-cost carrier receives Kenyan air service licence

Low-cost carrier fastjet Kenya has received its air service licence, paving the way for it to soon begin operating flights in the East African country.

The airline’s CEO Ed Winter was quoted by aviation news service Air Transport World as saying fastjet Kenya planned to launch with domestic flights in 2016.

It will join fastjet Tanzania (which is already operational), fastjet Zimbabwe (which is due for launch Oct 28) and fastjet Zambia (which is slated to begin operations in early December). The group is also planning airline launches in Uganda and South Africa in 2016.

The granting of the ASL cleared the way for fastjet Kenya to begin the application process for an air operator certificate (AOC).
