SECURITY SEAL manufacturer Aluvin Security Seal has taken its service one step further. The company is committed to educating its clients on how to put proper management systems in place to ensure their seals achieve maximum effectivenss, says m.d. Kevin Norwitz.
Aluvin manufactures and imports a large variety of tamper proof security seals and locking devices used to secure the contents of trucks, containers and other cargo, but according to Norwitz, they can only work effectively if the client's internal systems work. The seals, says Norwitz, provide peace of mind as they have to be cut or broken to provide access to the cargo. On receipt of a container, truck or parcel with a broken seal, the client can return the offending item or truck, allowing the sender to track down the source of the problem more accurately. Each seal has a unique number which correlates with a number on the documentation. This reduces the chances of theft and fraud almost completely, provided the user puts the proper system in place to manage and administer the seals. Norwitz says security seals come in two broad categories, from the lighter indicative seals, which merely indicate tampering to the recipient of the cargo, to the more heavy duty, top-of-the-range barrier seals. As the name implies, these provide a physical barrier to attempts at gaining unauthorised access to cargo. Norwitz stresses that the seals only work as well as the administration and internal security checks used by client companies. Proper administration and staff training are vital to ensure that there is no chance of collusion or what Norwitz terms pre-tampering. This is when seals are tampered with before being applied.
