South African Express line (SAEL) says Uganda's booming economy is the reason why they have started a new groupage service along the Johannesburg, Durban and Kampala route.
Financial director Steve Riley says the new service will go through to Kampala and avoid the conventional stop in Mombasa, where theft and pilfering is rife.
Riley believes that SAEL's new fortnightly service will save clients money. Existing operators, he says, don't offer the cost benefits of a groupage service.
Riley says the variety of cargo, particularly finished products, moving into Uganda is immense, and runs the gamut from foodstuffs to iron and steel.
The transit time for SAEL's new service is expected to be 21 days.
