THERE'S A positive side to declining airfreight yields which have dropped 2,9% since 1971, according to Emirates senior g.m. cargo, Ram Menen.
While Menen believes the trend will continue, the up-side is a growth in air cargo volumes.
It becomes more viable for lower value goods to travel by air and that's what's happening to some of the old land/sea-captive cargo. Boeing has forecast a 6,9% increase in air cargo year on year until the year 2014. Emirates expects this to be higher.
And it will be shared by those players who are evolving and adapting to the new market conditions. Those who don't change will become extinct.
