Local cadet wins international award

SAFMARINE CADET officer Theresa (Terry) Leisegang outshone 500 international trainees in the AP Moller group when she received the A.P. M¿ller International Cadet Officer Award for the year 2000. This is the first such achievement by a South African.
Leisegang entered Safmarine's deck cadet officer training programme two years ago at the age of 18. In addition to her technical and academic studies, she has served at sea on the Safmarine Oranje (Southern Africa - Far East route); S.A. On completion of her studies and after a further three months of sea time in one of the ships in the greater A.P. M¿ller fleet, she will be eligible for promotion to the rank of Third Officer.
She has just joined the crew of the Carsten Maersk as deck cadet.
