Little clarity on SAD delay

ALAN PEAT THERE IS little clarity on reasons for the postponement to October 1 of the roll-out of the new SAD 500 (single administrative document). It was to be introduced for ALL Southern African Customs Union (Sacu) cross border traffic over the next three months starting its roll-out from April 1, until a memo from SAD 500 project manager, Theo Ruiters, announced the postponement “as requested by industry”. But at least some of that industry does not agree, according to Riaan de Lange, who runs the customs and trade consultancy, SA Tariff & Trade Solutions. “The word we have heard from industry is that it’s a customs-caused delay,” he told FTW.
