Levelling off after last year’s jump

WITH A total IATA airfreight export turnover of R59.7% in 2003, Danzas AEI snatched 12th spot in the Top 30. In this, the company maintained its base for the year, according to director Brian Olwage, but recorded no exciting upward jumps for 2003. “Basically we saw our results in 2002 pushed up tremendously with four major export projects. “But not having this same benefit in 2003 saw us levelling off, retaining our current basic traffic and destinations – but with no great growth.” Also, the international airlines noted that the high oil price and the necessary fuel surcharges had seen a lot of cargo being lost to seafreight. “Something,” said Olwage, “that the industry must pay attention to. “We are going to sit down with the airlines and see what can go back to airfreight – and work on that.”
