TWENTY FOUR Grade 11 students from the Simon’s Town High Maritime Studies department recently got the lowdown on matters maritime at a three-day Introduction to Shipping course sponsored by Safmarine. “This is one way in which we can assist students in making informed career choices,” said Safmarine director Fred Jacobs. The course, held at the South African Maritime Training Academy (SAMTRA) based in Simon’s Town, was followed by a visit to Cape Town harbour. SAMTRA’s general manager Andy MacLennan said the Simon’s Town High School played an important role in educating individuals on the role of the maritime industry and life at sea.
