The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has warned that shippers who fail to comply with the port of Mombasa’s certificate of conformity will not have their cargo cleared or discharged.
Non-compliant imported goods will be detained and taken through further inspections with their importers who will be subject to penalties for flouting the law, according to a public notice released by KPA.
“Where post verification is undertaken for the non-compliant cargo, full verification charges shall apply as per KPA tariff,” Kenya newspaper the Star quoted the public notice as saying.
Imports not subject to the new arrangement include goods already regulated by other government agencies such as Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate, Pest Control and Products Board, and Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
