KENCARGO HAS added a courier product to its freight services into African and Middle East destinations, using Kenya Airways daily flights in and out of Johannesburg. There is a need in the market for a time-sensitive product, says regional sales manager Maarten Klijnstra, with courier documents and packages now being dispatched separately from the normal cargo, and covered by a courier baggage voucher. The daily service between Johannesburg and Nairobi also allows for courier items to be flown to and from Dubai through the Nairobi hub. This is in addition to the new service Kencargo launched in mid-April when it started selling the weekly Kenya Airways AN12 freighter service from Nairobi to Lusaka, Lilongwe and Mwanza. Local import lead times have dropped substantially which has stimulated the high level of inbound trade to these destinations, says Klijnstra. "Using the Nairobi hub we have smooth connections to all destinations from Johannesburg, as well as ongoing transhipments to and from the Far East, Middle East, Europe, USA and South America."
