PUTTING OFF replacement of refrigeration units
may be a way of dealing with an owner’s cash flow
challenges during pressing economic times like now.
But these units are still a priority for perishable
handlers and movers, representing as they do the
hardware that keeps foodstuffs, medicines and
other items in quality shape.
“Fuel prices, devaluation of the rand and interest
rates have hit everyone hard this year, and some
firms are not upgrading their units,” said Frans Van
Vianen, director of the Grenco Transport Division.
After 45 years providing refrigeration units for
freight transporters and cold storage facilities, the
transport arm of Grenco (the parent company was
established in 1965) is ranked as one of the four
top suppliers in the business, he said.
“We operate in the industrial and transport
refrigeration sectors – from farmers to
supermarkets and chain stores, they all use our
refrigeration expertise in both sectors,”
said Van Vianen.
“Grenco’s twelve branches in SA provide and
maintain the necessary service backup need by our
national customers. This national network enables
us to offer a maintenance regimen on all our
products sold.”
Eventually, the units need upgrading as
businesses expand or through simple attrition, and
the prudent perishable handler won’t neglect the
mechanisms that are the foundation of
their businesses.
